Civil engineers plan and design all types of buildings, houses, industrial plants, bridges, roads and railways, waterways and water reservoirs.
Besides these traditional activities, in industrialised and rapidly evolving societies, the skills of Civil Engineers are more and more requested in the fields of Land Planning, and Environment Preservation.
Moreover, the arising demand for safety and protection against natural and industrial risks, is the framework where the skills of Civil Engineers meet the continuously evolving needs of Civil Protection.
Main employers of civil engineers are national and international construction companies, engineering and consultancy agencies and, last but not least, public authorities. Quite a number of civil engineers are self-employed and run their own company.
